So,symptoms of diabetes?
symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis?(19 yrs old)

There are basically two types of gene mutations in respect to disease. One type of mutation causes a disease. For example, the mutant gene may cause achrondroplasia (a form of dwarfism) or it may cause hemophilia or cystic fibrosis or sickle cell disease. The existence of genes that cause diseases has long been recognized.

The other type of gene mutation does not directly cause a disease but rather predisposes to it. These genes make a person susceptible to developing a disease. These susceptibility genes often involve common chronic diseases such as diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis.

An important finding has just been made about the genetic susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis and autoimmunity. We will outline the finding.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis is the most common systemic autoimmune disease. It affects 1% of all adults in the world. The disease is characterized by immune-mediated destruction of the joint architecture. It is 2 to 3 times more common in women than men. The heritability of rheumatoid arthritis is 60%, reflecting a strong genetic component in the disease.

Design of Research: To identify genes involved in the susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis, a "discovery study" was done testing for 87 variations called SNPs (single-nucleotide polymorphisms) in candidate genes and regions. The discovery study involved 475 individuals with rheumatoid arthritis and 475 individually matched controls.

Result: One of the SNPs was found to be associated with rheumatoid arthritis. It was a "missense" SNP in a gene encoding a protein tyrosine phosphorylase. This risk SNP was present in 28% of those with rheumatoid arthritis and 17% of the controls

Comment: A variant of this same SNP encoding the same phosphorylase enzyme was recently found associated with type 1 diabetes, another autoimmune disease. It is beginning to look as if this variant phosphatase may increase the overall reactivity of the immune system and may raise the risk for autoimmune disease.

Lie flat on your back on the floor. Pull your knees up to your chest and hug them with your arms. Rock back and forth on your back.

This exercise has saved my back from pain for years. Sit-ups have also help greatly. T

Remember to take full responsibility for your own health and see a doctor if needed. Thought I would say that sense suing folks is a lot like playing the lottery for too many folks. They ran my doctor out of town, I tell ya.

30 weeks pregnant and in severe pain what is going on?

Posted: February 28, 2009 – 5:41 pm

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and in severe pain in my lower abdomen, lower back and vagina and radiating into my legs. I haven't had any spotting or leakage. I've had little spots of mucous lately that didn't look normal but at my doctor's appointment last week he said I wasn't dilated. I've had long labors with both of my other two babies. My membrane had to be ruptured and I was given pitocin because it was taking a while.

Go see your doctor immediately. If you have severe pain, and you are pregnant, it is an emergency.

Wisdom tooth right side at lower jaw shooting acute pain. Also swelling on jaw and throat.Irritation?

Posted: February 28, 2009 – 5:41 pm

The Doctor prescribed Paracetamol"Biozobid plus" TDS. Cyfedrox Tablets "Droxyl-500" 1 BDS and to stop acute pain Katorolac Troneting two tablets diluted in ater.

You said doctor I hope he's a dentist. Sounds like you have an infection going on. Some of the meds, i think are to make sure you don't get an infection after your tooth is pulled. If possible go back to your dentist and see if he will prescribe something stronger like Tylenol#3, this usually helps with the pain. If it's to late to get to a doctor, just try the nearest pharmacy and speak with the pharmacist, they usually have pain pills with codeine. I had to do this a couple of times when my dentist wasn't available.Good Luck.

Can having fibromyalgia cause the body to shut down where you are unable to walk, get out of bed alone?

Posted: February 28, 2009 – 5:41 pm

I 'm told that I have fibromyalgia but it has never been explained in the right way. I have done some reading and I don't think that is what I have. My body has been attacked to the point that at times I can't walk, get out of bed, just trying to get through the day can be very hard. So I just want to know if fibromyalgia can be that bad off.

The short answer is yes. Who told you that you have fibromyalgia? Were you diagnosed by a MD? If you weren't you need a thorough work-up to be sure. Fibro is diagnosed by eliminating everything else that could be causing your symptoms. With fibro you will have 11 out of 18 trigger points & pain in all 4 quadrants of the body. Again, if you have not had a thorough diagnostic work-up to rule out other more serious conditions, you need to. But, yes, fibromyalgia can be that bad.

Is it normal to have cramps and lower back pain while having a tampon in?

Posted: February 28, 2009 – 5:41 pm

When I put a tampon in i usually just get little cramps, but they last throughout my period. Before, using pads I would just get one big one and it would be over. And also, with the tampon I do have lower back pain. I have never had that before either

Cramping comes from the muscles in your pelvic area and uterine wall. A tampon inserted in that area could cause aggravation to the muscles and cramping could be a result. Strongly recommend that if you do have cramping that you discontinue their use so long as you have pain. Pain is a warning that something is wrong and you would be wise to stop using them. It is possible that another type of tampon might work better, but I have to say that I had that exact problem and found no relief except to stop using them altogether. It's inconvenient but the relief I got was absolutely worth it.

Edit: Most women do not get cramps from using a tampon, but some women do. Do not listen to answers that say they don't get cramps using tampons because they are not you, you get cramps. Yes cramps may come with periods - not everyone gets them either. The specific answer to your question is NO, it is not normal to have cramps and lower back pain using a tampon. If you are having cramps you need to stop using tampons.

Chronic Pain from flexible flat feet can i get prescription help?

Posted: February 28, 2009 – 5:41 pm

I have chronic pain in my feet and it extends to my knee’s and hips. is there any way that i could possibly get a prescription for pain medication it is becoming harder to fulfill my daily duties as a father and at my job.
i forgot to add this, i have already tried the high prescription shoe's and in soles. they are absolutely unbearable. not only that but i believe there is permanent nerve damage in my left big toe. it has been numb for 2 months now, almost tingly.

It sounds like you want medication not help for a foot problem. Not a judgment, just the way it’s coming across. A physician is trained to notice this as well.

Prescription medication is not given for foot pain. You need to see a family physician who has trained in sports medicine as a sub-specialty. Sports medicine is not just for athletes, it’s where you go when you’re having mobility issues.

A podiatrist will only prescribe expensive orthotics which are not covered by most insurance plans. So, family medicine/sports medicine doctor, look into high end New Balance shoes (they have models made specificially for issues with foot pain), and take over the counter medication.
